Big shout to Rob from Yesmate a great music sharing platform for mixes and playlists (Mixcloud, Soundcloud, Youtube, Spotify, etc). You’ll definitely find something to keep you happy never mind what genre you’re into. We’ve been listening since the weekend to some fine mixes including the great Blundetto, Mixmaster Morris and Jon More. Log on…
I woke up this morning to a light dusting of snow over the garden. I’ve a day off today and was hoping to tidy up a couple of beds out there if I got an hour or two, but they can now wait as you can’t see the weeds for the snow!
I found out a new gardening term the other day as I wanted to buy some bluebell bulbs to stick in the bottom of the garden under the tree by the pond as it can get quite shady and I never have much luck there anyway.
As I’ve long missed the autumn delivery/planting, the only way to purchase them now is when the bulbs have started growing in the spring. They’re lifted at the nursery and then transplanted to us the punters “live”, hence the term “In the green.” Roll on the spring!
Two to feel warmer to (after the stereo and the heating’s been turned up!)
Temples – Move with the Season (Beyond the Wizzards Sleeve remix) – Heavenly
It’s been a lovely day today so there’s been a bit of flymo-ing, weeding, sowing root veg of the beetroot and carrot variety and this evening, big action with the garden hose, all the while wondering if all those tales about watering in sunshine are true.
Then this evening it starts to chuck it down. Brilliant, as usual I am bang on with my timing. To accompany this tale of gardening woe here’s some mad Eroll Alkan/Richard Norris business on a well trippy tip and if it weren’t so blimmin warm I’d get me kaftan on. But then again if I did, I wouldn’t be able to give it large to the tune below.
Thanks to our good mate Will J for passing this mad tune on. Is that the sound of bagpipes? And I do love the punk rock style ending!
Elias Rahbani – La dance de Nadia
Machinedrum – Gunshotta (AMIT Remix) – Ninjatune
Cheers to David Rodigan for playing these two great tunes which we’re featuring tonight. The above is a lovely bit of 2013 dub with Pablo vibes and a nice throbbing bass.
Over the last few days I’ve been thinking of what to plant for next year as it’ll be great to grow something that the family will actually eat! Saying that, spuds, onions, garlic and carrots are winners here even if they are cheaper in the shops to buy, but who cares? The back garden is nearer than the local shop and home grown veg is tens times fresher! Remember, always grow stuff that you’re definitely going to eat (not what gardening magazines tell you what you should be growing) as it’s a big waste of time and effort if not and just ends up on the compost heap!
And to go out with here’s the “cross, angry, miserable” (just like me on a monday morning) Bounty Killer on a right bonkers tip (featuring a lovely horn sample). Not one to play loud early on a Sunday morning on the ghetto blaster down the allotment.
Jamtech Ft. Bounty Killer – Neva Know – Ghetto Trap
Bang Bang Boogie – Lebrosk’s Electro Swing mashup – Soundcloud
Heard on this week’s excellent Echo Chamber on KFAI. On a pure bonkers tip, puts us in mind of this one below from many moons ago!
Thanks to Jake last night for playing us “A love from outer space” from A.R. Kane which a certain Mr Weatherall cites as an influence. A great tune and I didn’t realise it was from that long ago! And another recommendation was this one from Kaito. As Rodigan would say “Big tune!” Big up to Anna and Jake!
Alborosie – Play Fool
A lovely tune heard on the excellent David Rodigan radio show on 1Xtra last week. It’s four minutes long but it don’t seem long enough!
Not to be confused with the following:
Johnny Clarke/King Tubby’s – Play Fool Fe Get Wise/Version
Whack the bass up for full effect!
