A massive thanks to the DJ and dread gardener Don Letts for playing Jazzmin Tutum & (Weeds up to me knees’ very own) Madtone’s – I once saw the revolutionary in you as part of his “Best of 2016” special in January on BBC Radio 6. The show features Damian Marley, C Duncan and The Frightnrs and a whole lot more! The Jazzmin & Madtone tune is at 1.02.42. Big thanks Don!
Life is all about what’s in the mix and the above is what we recently found after clearing out our compost bin of its organic matter. There’s some surprises: a sonic screwdriver (for God’s sake), a silver teaspoon and a plastic bag with some Caesar Salad mix in it! It’s frightening as we think we’re really careful of what we put in the heap.
As for our latest bit of listening pleasure: the Rhythm Doctor’s audio mix for FatCat records (above), there’s no unwanted rubbish in there! Listen out for the following!
Big shout to Dr Strangedub for featuring Jazz’min and Madtone Versus The Gaytones version of NZAM Fang Creation Myth on this week’s Echo Chamber on KFAI downloadable here at 19.27 mins in. There’s also a cracking Ras Takura horticultural related dubplate just after it. Big thanks to our musical collaborator Jazzmin for the voice and the vibes and for playing it on Dub Kali Rootz on Radio Dreyeckland this week!
Big shout to The TurntableTerrorist Terry C out of Chicago for sending us this pic of his garden from a few years ago. As he emailed this evening “I especially long for it now that we’re in deep winter in Chicago.” We know what you mean, even though the snow and the frost aren’t showing their faces in the UK at the moment but they will.
As it’s says on the WLUW website it’s a “bass-heavy sonic journey through the world of dub, starting with old-school roots and covering dub and dub influenced music including new-school roots, ambient dub, dubhop, dubstep, digi-dub, Asian dub and more from around the globe. Rivers of bass flowing into oceans of dub…all from the shores of Lake Michigan.” A show well up our street and definitely one to tune in to. Cheers to Terry C for playing our tunes on his show. Appreciated!
Big shout to our musical collaborator Jazz’min Tutum (Dub Poetess, DJ and host of the Dub Kali Roots radio show and vocalist of the great Zion Train) for this latest instalment of the Jazz’min & Madtone musical adventure. Also a massive thanks to Steve Barker, Fenny and Jim from the excellent On The Wire on BBC Radio Lancashire for playing it on their 3rd December show here and to the dread gardener and DJ, Don Letts (above – a shot of his garden featured a few years ago in weeds here) for doing likewise on his 13th November Culture Clash show here. Excellent stuff, we here at Weeds salute you!
A big shout to Shane Q from the excellent Garden of Earthly Delights on CRMK Radio for letting us know about Madtone’s session for the show from April 2006 on Mixcloud (it’s downloadable as well here.)
It includes some fine music from Quantic, Daedelus, Boom Bip, RCTJ Vs Quad90, Unity Cresent and more alongside the Madtone session tracks: Radio Is My Friend (16.47), E2 (The Lincolnshire Poacher) (38.04) and Calling Live On Channel (1.00.20.)
The show will be back on the air in the near future, broadcasting from a new improved CRMK radio studio that once was a public convenience. Keep em peeled here for news and links to lots of great mixes.
